Sylvia Thornhill has been interested in art since she was a child in Coventry and - when she trained to be a teacher - Art, Craft and Needlecraft formed a main part of her training.

After her retirement she was able to give more time to her own development in the Arts and attended many courses in various media.

Sylvia has a wide interest in subjects such as landscapes, flowers, still life and figurative. Her time is shared between watercolour, mixed media and acrylics, etching and sculpture. She has shown her paintings widely across West Sussex.

Sylvia's most important sculpture to date is her "Children of the Fair" to celebrate the 700 years of the St. Lawrence Fair in Hurstpierpoint. It takes the form of seven children each representing a hundred years of the Fair and was unveiled on the Village Green in 2013.
