Sylvia Thornhill has been interested in art since she was a child in Coventry and - when she trained to be a teacher - Art, Craft and Needlecraft formed a main part of her training.

After her retirement she was able to give more time to her own development in the Arts and attended many courses in various media.

Sylvia has a wide interest in subjects such as landscapes, flowers, still life and figurative. Her time is shared between watercolour, mixed media and acrylics, etching and sculpture. She recently had a solo exhibition at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley and has work on show at Washbrooks Farm in Hurstpierpoint all year round.

She is particularly thrilled to have won the Sculpture Competition to celebrate the 700 years of the St. Lawrence Fair in Hurstpierpoint with her "Children of the Fair'. It takes the form of seven children each representing a hundred years of the Fair and is to be unveiled on the Village Green on Saturday 29th June 2013. Parts of the development of the work will be on show at the Open Studio Event.
